The 2018 Monterrey Film Festival Official Selection of International Films is ready

Stories from distant places such as Tajikistan, Malaysia or Finland make up the 2018 Monterrey Film Festival Official Selection of International Full-Length and Short Films.

This year, 11 full-length films will be competing, 4 of them are fiction works, 4 documentaries and 3 animation films. Also, 32 short films will take part of the Official Selection: 16 are fiction, 6 documentaries and 10 animation films. Several of these pictures have previously competed at important festivals such as Tribeca, Berlinale and Cannes.

“We found stories that are quite similar, where searching for the past in order to redeem yourself is a common thread”, said Narce Ruiz, Monterrey Film Festival’s Director of Programming.

Mrs. Ruiz also mentioned that the Monterrey Film Festival has hosted the Best Animated Full-Length Film since 2012, a competition for animated films that are not necessarily for children.

In terms of short films, over 700 proposals were submitted, from more than 25 different countries.

“This year, looking to assemble a unique offering, we made sure that films showcased at International Short Films selection were also premieres for the Mexican audience. On the other hand, the guest country, France will have 3 short films in competition, one in each category”, explained Sergio Salazar, Monterrey Film Festival’s Programming Associate.

This Official Selection will showcase at the official venue of Cinepolis Las Americas (Garza Sada) during the 14th Monterrey Film Festival, from August 16 to August 23, 2018.

International Full-Length and Short Films winners in the categories of fiction, documentary and animation, will be granted the Monterrey Film Festival Trophy, el Cabrito de Plata.
