The 14th edition of the Monterrey International Film Festival will happen from August 16th to 23rd and will be presented by CONARTE, the UANL, Cinepolis Sala de Arte and the Federal Cultural Secretary.
Clémentine Mourão-Ferreira, Audiovisual Cooperation attaché of the French Embassy in Mexico and the French Institute of Latin America (IFAL), stated the importance for her country to be a part of the FIC Monterrey, because one of the priorities as a nation is to promote their cinema.
“In the area of cultural and creative industries, cinema is a priority for France, because it allows us to show our language and culture to the world.”, she stated.
Mourão-Ferreira also mentioned that Mexico is one of the best places to showcase French cinema, because after China, USA and Russia, is where people see it more.
On its part, Jose Manuel Blanco, representative of the Mission Culture/Cooperation of the French Office in Monterrey, stated that it will be an honor and a challenge to be the special guest in this edition of the Festival.
“We are going to try to work in several directions, maybe rescue the glamour that is implicit in a film festival, work in a cooperation program to leave an academic legacy in the city and move this festival towards French film festivals and have an international projection.”
France’s presence in the 14 FIC Monterrey will be represented by a carefully curated selection of recent films, but also by the presence of professors and students during the I International Encounter of Film Schools, as well as representatives of the French cinematographic industry.
The section France Guest Country takes place thanks to the collaboration of the French Embassy in Mexico, the IFAL and its representation in Monterrey, the Office of the French Embassy in Monterrey and the Institut Français.
