FIC Monterrey announces its 2017 edition and opens its call for entries

The great relevance of the Monterrey International Film Festival (FIC Monterrey for its name in Spanish) makes the 13th edition of this event possible; it will take place from August 23 – 31, thanks to CONARTE’s dutifully intervention and the support of the Secretary of Culture.

The budget cuts to State culture jeopardized the Festival, so the organizers seeked out alternatives. Due to its importance in the state of Nuevo León, CONARTE negotiated special resources through the Secretary of Culture, this received a positive answer and the resources were allocated for the 2017 edition.

The announcement was made today at Cineteca Nuevo León with the participation of Ricardo Marcos, President of CONARTE; Jorge García Murillo, Arts Center Director, and Juan Manuel Gonzalez, FIC Monterrey Director.

“The previous year there was uncertainty about the continuity of the Festival, but CONARTE was always on the line to help. We managed the resources at the federal level to grant them for the 2017 edition”, the State official said.  “The Festival is a successful program with incidence in the community. We are sure that it can grow and r to do so we are going to establish a patronage to solidify this work.”

“We will keep supporting this event, but we aspire to grow and, with the support of private funding, we can do it. It is clear that the festival is important, and we recognize the work it has been done through 17 years since it started as Voladero.”

Juan Manuel Gonzalez highlighted CONARTE’s support in the making of this event.

“Thanks to CONARTE, this year we were able to have a high quality Festival. The films should be the stars in these types of events, they are the ones that create this link with the community. We need to celebrate in the theatres and enjoy good cinema in Cineteca Nuevo Leon”, he assured.

Besides CONARTE, the Festival has the support of UANL, Cinépolis and a wide number of sponsors and partners.
