FIC Monterrey Official Selection 2017 is ready

A total of 89 films are in the FIC Monterrey 2017 Official Selection. In the international section there are 5 feature films and 36 short films; in the Mexican competition there are 10 feature films and 28 short films in competition.

It is important to highlight that the works done in Nuevo León –3 feature films and 9 short films– also compete for Best Nuevo León Feature and Short Film.

Since two years ago, FIC Monterrey has formed alliances with different international festivals. In Colombia we collaborate with Bogoshorts and Intravenosa to exchange the best films: The winner of Best Nuevo León Short Film will be screened in Bogoshorts, while the winner of the Student Film Showcase will have a spot in Intravenosa.

This year, as part of our Official Selection, we have La niña de la buseta, winner in Bogoshorts; whilst the Intravenosa winner will be part of MECE.

We also work together with Talca International Film Festival, in Chile. The winners for Best Nuevo León Feature Film (El salmón), Best Nuevo León Short Film (El problema de las estrellas binarias), Best Mexican Narrative Short Film (Domingo) and Best Mexican Documentary Short Film (13,500 volts) were screened at this Chilean festival in its past edition.

In the 2017 edition of the FIC Monterrey we also have Talca’s winners: El hombre aficionado, in the category of International Narrative Short Film, and Iris in the International Documentary Short FIlm category.

These collaborations are extremely important for the FIC Monterrey because they extend the journey of films and gives them the possibility to to be screened around the world.

It is important to mention that all winners will get the official award, the Cabrito de Plata, alongside with some incentives; for instance, the Best Nuevo León Feature and Short film, will get a $20,000 MXN award, that includes one day of production equipment: camera, sound, lighting, etc., courtesy of Filmorent.

UANL: Flashforward
The Festival continues its alliance with the maximum seat of learning in Nuevo León, and it will take films to high schools. The conversation between filmmakers and audiences is not only one of the objectives of the Festival, but it also helps support academic formation.

Galleria
Each year, besides movies in competition, the Festival presents other programs to enjoy in our different venues.

Open screen
Since 2013, FIC Monterrey opened its theatres to a variety of organizations that offer workshops and film classes in Nuevo León and Tamaulipas, thanks to this we have seen the transformation of kids and young people when they see their films on the big screen. We firmly believe that cinema transforms, cinema moves. The screening of 18 short films will be Sunday August 26 at 15:00 hours in Cinépolis Las Américas (Garza Sada).

FIC Monterrey Panoramas
This year a selection of films that have been on the screens of the Festival will be shared with different audiences in other cities in Nuevo León. This year we present 7 short films, including Historia de un oso, last year’s winner at FIC Monterrey and at the Oscars. This program will also include Olas del cielo, Futuro Quebrado, Contrapelo, Vuelve, Nuevos Aires and Hacia una primavera rosa. More details coming soon.

German Film Week
Every year the German Film Week Opening gala takes place as an activity of the FIC Monterrey. This year, the film will be Selbstkritik eines bürgerlichen Hundes (Autocrítica de un perrito burgués), by Julian Radlmaier, that was part of this year’s Berlinale. The screening will be on August 27 at 21:30 hours in Cineteca Nuevo León.

Cut away with corruption
The heart of this contest are the young filmmakers in Mexico and the world, whom with their creativity and talent, express their ideas, denounce the disagreements and propose solutions to change Mexico. The screening will take place on August 31 at 17:00 hours at Cinépolis Las Américas (Garza Sada).

Alliance with Tlanchana Fest
This year we are proud to present with our film program a selection of films that are part of Tlanchana Fest. Miradas de barro will present 8 films that are a testimony to the audiovisual and cinematographic work in Mexico State. The screenings will take place in Colegio Civil Centro Cultural Universitario at Cinema Fósforo on Sunday August 27 at 16:30 hours, and in Theatre 2 of Cineteca Nuevo León on Wednesday August 30 at 17:00 hours.
