The 2017 edition of the Monterrey International Film Festival is pleased to announce that Dolores Heredia, renowned Mexican actress, will receive the Cabrito de Cristal as an Icon of Mexican Cinema.
Born in La Paz, Baja California Sur, Dolores Heredia is nowadays a recognized and respected actress, producer and activist from Mexico.
She began her career at the University Theater Center of UNAM, with the group El Fauno. She participated in Sophocles’ Antigone directed by Armando García and presented at the Núcleo de Estudios Teatrales and in the Centro Internazionale di Studi Audiovisuali, in Switzerland. In 1990 she becomes a member of the Theater Experimentation Center of INBA, with Sewing machines directed by Luis de Tavira. In 1991 she starts with the National Theater Company performing in The journey of the singers, which had a season in Mexico and Spain. In Madrid she acted in Lope de Aguirre, traidor, directed by José Luis Gómez, which traveled to Spain, Colombia and Venezuela. Between 1994 and 2004 she joined the Sunil Theater founded by Daniele Finzi Pasca, whom Dolores assisted in the direction of the first version of 1337 Déjeuner sur l’herbe and Patria. In 1994, she acted and produced the play ¡Ay Carmela!, by José Sanchis Sinisterra, and directed by Otto Minera.
In 1996, she participated in a project in Ethiopia where theater was used as a way to integrate children orphaned by war. Inspired by this project, she directed the children’s show Storie per vincere la Notte (1997) and she continued her collaboration with Finzi Pasca: 1337, Visitatio, Te amo and Aitestás; for this last movie she obtained, in 1998, the Sekisano Prize for best foreign show in Mexico.
As a founder of Poramor Producciones, she collaborated as an artistic consultant in the show Corteo, which was created and directed by Finzi Pasca. In 2015 she produced the tour in Mexico of La Veritá, which combines theater, dance, music and circus, inspired by Salvador Dalí’s interpretation of Tristan and Isolde.
She began her career in cinema with the short film La otra orilla (1989), by Antonio Diego Hernández. In 1993 she acted in Desiertos mares, En el aire, and Dos crímenes, which distinguished her as Best Actress in the Cartagena de Indias Film Festival, in Colombia; this film also earned her the nomination for best supporting actress by the Mexican Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences. Internationally, she participated in La hija del Puma (1994), by Asa Faringer and Hulf Hultberg, a film co-produced between Sweden, Mexico and Denmark.
The film Santitos was released in 1999 and won as Best Latin American Film at the Sundance Film Festival and Best Film at the Los Angeles Latino Film Festival. For her performance, she won the Best Actress Award at the International Film Festival of Amiens, France and at the 40th International Film and TV Festival of Cartagena, Colombia. She participated in Get the gringo, by Adrián Grunberg, where she shared the main role with Mel Gibson. She participated at the Berlinale with her film Two men in town, starring Forest Whitaker and directed by Rachid Bouchareb. In 2014 the AMACC nominated her as best actress for her work in Huérfanos. To date she has more than 40 feature films.
In television she starred in Capadocia by HBO Latino (seasons I, II and III), a project that has earned her several international nominations. Due to her experience, she has been invited as a jury at several international film festivals: Gramado in Brazil, Guadalajara (FICG), Guanajuato (GIFF) and San Cristóbal de las Casas (FIC), as well as the Festival of Cinema and Environment Cinema Planeta.
In 2015, she became the representative of the Finzi Pasca Company in Mexico. In October of this same year she is elected President of the Mexican Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences.
The ceremony will take place on August 28 at 20:00 hours at Colegio Civil Centro Cultural Universitario’s Aula Magna.
